“One of the things that continues to strike me about Chris’s art is that it is a medium for expressing something beyond words. There is something almost spiritual that speaks to me when I experience the art. To me, that makes him a portal through which the universe is able to speak to anyone who experiences his artwork.”

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Painting is a joyful release. In painting there are no boundaries – I can create whatever I want to create in that moment. Total freedom.

I first started painting in 1997. I had no idea what I was doing, but I was drawn to it. I realized that there had been an artistic voice trapped deep down inside me that had been struggling to get out my entire life. Once I started painting, I knew it was what I needed.

Back then I was working as a massage therapist. I loved that career. I was good at it. It brought me a new sense of confidence and a lot of freedom. Even better, it enabled me to heal people and to connect with them at a deep level. I feel that same sense of connection when I share a painting.

In 2006 when the economy tanked, my business, like many others, floundered. I had to get a day job. I started working in a warehouse. I stopped painting.

Six years later, I saw a piece of art hanging in a friend’s house. It spoke to me. And just like that, I was inspired. I began painting again. I threw myself into it even more than before. My wife loved the work and loved the joy it brought me. With her encouragement I made greater leaps. I believed in the power of the paint. I moved on to bigger pieces. And then even bigger ones.

I know that I am just a conduit for the paint. I am a facilitator. I paint what shows up. People see something in it. They connect to the painting. The paint speaks to them through me.

I hope my work brings you the same joy it brings me.
